Plague thrip

Constraint - Plague thrip

Description

  • Adult plague thrips are slender, about 1 mm long and brown with two pairs of narrow, fringed wings

  • The nymphs are smaller, yellow/orange-yellow and wingless

Symptoms

  • Adults and nymphs feed on the stems, flower petals, and pollen

Damage

  • They do not affect pollination, pod set or pod fill, but some pods may be distorted

  • Yield penalty does not result from plague thrip infestation

Control

Control of plague thrip in canola is not warranted.
