Description

• Ring spot is a foliar fungal disease of cereals and most grass species

• It is normally distributed fairly evenly through the crop

Symptoms

• Scattered, yellow leaves across paddock.

• Leaves have small brown spots 1-4 mm with dark brown rims and pale brown centres.

• Spiky fungal structures are produced from previously infected grass seeds

Damage

• Yield penalty is very minor, often no yield loss occurs

Control

• Fungicide treatment is rarely required.

• Control grass weeds, particularly brome and barley grass, in the year before sowing cereals

• Avoid successive cereal crops
