Abiotic constraints in Canola
Broad constraint resources are outlined in the Agronomists Toolkit. Specific constraint categories are listed below:
Group A herbicide damage
Constraint - Group A herbicide damage
Symptoms
-
Mildly damaged vegetative stage plants are dark green and cupped downwards with minor leaf spotting and scorching
-
Flowering plants are smaller and produce fewer and smaller flowering spikes
-
Flowers may appear distorted, resulting in distorted heads, and reduced and distorted pods
Damage
-
Generally canola is not damaged/recovers from damage by this herbicide group, but Dims can cause damage and yield loss
Control
There is no treatment options. Plants will either recover or suffer damage. Management options include spraying when the risk of drift is low and plants are not stressed, following instructions on the label very carefully, keeping accurate records, and optimising growing conditions to reduce stresses.
